RACE SUMMARY

Weather was good. We were ready. The atmosphere really lacked energy. The field was weak. I knew I was 10 seconds faster than my competitors, Lisa was faster by a great amount. SO the goal was to run a strong race, duplicate our PR's from two weeks ago, without any competition. We did it.

My Race

I was in the second spot in lane 1, I really don't like starting on the inside because I prefer not to take the lead on the gun. I attempted to hit my pace, but stutter-stepped for about 10m of the first 100m... I figured the leaders would hit 65, but I was a couple seconds back due to the stumble and the really mixed up pack... first 400m I was 67, too slow. I knew I was going to run 4:00 or better, so I knew I had to work. I was pretty clear on the second lap, still not in the lead, but hit 65 for the lap, 2:12 for the 800m, I would have liked to be 2:08-2:10. With 700 left I turned it on. I too the lead and really turned it on with 500m left, through the 1200 in 3:14, 62 second third lap. I stepped across the 400m mark at 3:00 flat. I ran the 1100-1200 in 14 flat, surprised myself there, and then finished the lap in a 60 flat for 4:00. Overall splits were 67, 65, 62, 46, last lap being a 60 flat... sloppy first lap, felt strong throughout, accelerated the whole race. Can't wait to get another crack at it in a strong field!
