I felt good stepping to the line, even though it was nearing 11:00pm... the first lap took off quickly and I did not drop to the back of the field as I have in some recent races... my goal was to stay in touch with the lead and take over the race with 500m to go. I felt very relaxed in the first lap, so it was a surprised to hear 62 at the 400m mark. The pace backed down ever so slightly to a 64 on the second lap, 2:06 at 800m. I felt like I was going fast and I knew I just wanted to hold a solid pace until 500 to go, which I did... I took the lead at 500 and hit the 400 to go mark at 3:52 same as last week... I lost the lead to the eventual winner somewhere on the back stretch, and was passed between 200 ad 100 to go by another guy, but held on to a 62 for the final 400 and finished third in 3:54.97... I am happy with the race, I was able to go out faster than ever before and finish relatively strong... I need to focus on pure speed more in the next training year so I have a bit more kick... my lungs were there, but my legs just couldn't go fast enough to finish it out with a win... all in all, great night, new PR!
