Summary

My legs didn't feel great early in the day, but once I loosened up I started to feel good. I had a feeling I would run strong due to the workouts earlier in the week. I really feel like the speed is kicking in. My form really came together on the 300m on Thursday. I felt invincible.

I toed the line, fairly relaxed but focused. I got out at a decent pace and settled in, just happened to be back of the pack, but the early pace was OK. First time down the home stretch I knew my form was stellar... my head was steady, I focused steadily ahead and felt under control. I hit the 400m at 64, not bad, but could move a bit faster. Second lap felt slow, too slow, I jockeyed a bit but the pack was wide in front of me, so I didn't want to spend too much energy on an early-mid race move, I broke stride a few times because others stepped in my way... I felt like I nearly stopped, but I never lost focus. We hit the 800m at 2:08 and I felt fresh, so I made a move on the back stretch... everyone started to move but I moved up a few spots... around the bend... from 1000m-1100m I moved up quite a bit, on the rail, it just opened up... at 400m to go, I held a nice spot and then made a strong move with 300m to go... I was outside and ran the tangent to the corner, one guy was outside of me and beat me on the tangent... around the bend... I was in third and felt breathing on my shoulder... I thought, "I don't want to lose to him" so I move a bit outside, probably lane three off of the curve... then I thought, "I can win if I really move" so I kicked into high gear, never broke form, never lost focus... never even looked at the other runners, just ran as fast as possible, I was flying on the home stretch... I nearly caught the leader, lost by 0.11s. I heard that he ran 3:54 and thought I was going to be 3:55, but I was 3:54.60, NEW PR!!!

Overall, the 10x200 and 300m workout earlier this week tuned me up perfectly for the race. I regained a very strong form. I never felt fatigued, I was focused, I disregarded the splits and raced to win... I made decisive moves and I unleashed a devastating kick. I feel like I'm back in stride and ready for another PR soon!
